Of the First State 'a few printed for private circulation'. 1838 privately published.  pp iii. 5-49.  with statement of all the ascents to the summit of Mont Blanc. This copy with frontispiece and five stone engraved plates, therefore the Third State edition, sl. foxing, from sketches by the Author which are placed opp. pp 15,17, 21, 24, 30. although still with ink correction 'Hed/r/eng^ren) p.9  re-cased in original blind tooled cloth with gilt title. ink insc. on fr. e.p. 'The author of this book died Nov. 5th. 1852 at Edinburgh Castle of small pox - Aged 24'. also with printed single page notice of his 'Military Funeral'    £1,900
