After making the first ascent of Mount Everest, with Tenzing in 1953, Ed Hillary became the most famous person on earth. His first book ‘High Adventure’ is a mountaineering autobiography ‘with Everest 1953 as its climax’. It was published shortly after the hugely successful best seller ‘The Ascent of Everest’ by John Hunt of which 500,000 copies of the First Edition were quickly sold out. The publisher Hodder & Stoughton had secured the rights prior to the expedition and now took advantage by also securing this version of events recounted by Hillary. Published on 21st July 1955 at 16 shillings it too quickly became a ‘best seller’ especially in the United States, published by E. P. Dutton & Co., following his Mount Everest lecture tour.
